I have recently fallen in love with a very trendy Hawaiian themed café in Onna. Not only does their curry rival Coco’s, (personally I think it’s better) they also cater to man’s best friend. I stumbled upon The Heartful Dog Resort, thinking it might be a backup for Karing Kennels. To my amazement, the staff spoke great English and explained that it is a café that caters to dog lovers. They have a large fenced in dog run, offer grooming services, and access to a beautiful private beach. The menu has a large variety of lunch items as well as unique deserts. They have a wide selection of coffee drinks, teas, and smoothies. I love that each meal is cooked individually for each guest. Despite the fact that I rarely bring my dog because of her “little dog syndrome,” my husband and I love the food and the view. It’s definitely a gem on Okinawa worth checking out.
Business Hours are from 10am to 730 pm

Directions: From Kadena travel on Route 58 north toward Nago. Take a left at the Ryuku Mura Village sign (it’s the huge sign with the digital TV). Follow the winding road past Ryuku Mura (on left) until road ends. At this light take a left onto Route 6. The Heartful Dog Resort will be approximately 1.5 miles on your right. Look for the blue and white buildings.

It is like you read my mind. This place is about 1/2 a mile from my house and I drive by it all the time, always wondering “what exactly is that place?”. Thank you for the information, I’ll be stopping there soon!
My friend and I had lunch there today. We both had a different curry set and they were very good! We also ordered onion rings as an appetizer, which I highly recommend! We told them that we heard about them through Okinawa Hai and they were very grateful!
Just had dinner there with my husband. No other puppies around, but ours ran around outside for the longest time and it was great to be able to let her off the leash. The food was really yummy as well; my husbad had the original curry and it was a little dry but super flavorful, and I had the coconut curry and the oreo-sesame shake, which I loved. We got the grissini for our puppy, which she liked but rarely sat still enough to eat.

I recently visited. It was my first experience. I absolutely loved the curry rice. Is there a recipe I could try here in the states for the curry rice?
What does this place take for currency? Card? American? Yen? Thanks
This place is featured in a current episode of “Hai Sai Okinawa” on MCCS TV (Channel 7 or 15 if you live on base). I host the show and had the pleasure to visit. From what I recall, they accept Yen & credit cards as well. I do not believe they accept American dollars. Great place with yummy food.
Are they open on Saturdays?
I went this weekend and the building was empty. Have they moved or gone out of business?
They are closed. I went the weekend before they closed. The lady said that they will reopen at another location but have not found one yet.
We miss you, Heartful!
I wish I had read through all the comments when I was looking for this place back in July (09)! I drove around for hours looking for the place! I did find a place that’s a little further up 58. It’s just off a side road on the right (you turn right and then immediately left). I don’t know if there was food, the lady didn’t speak much English but they did have English instructions provided. You had to read the rules and it was 500 yen, not sure if there was a time limit. I had my two little ones so we didn’t stay long but it was nice to have the choice to hang out inside with the kids or outside with the dogs. I believe they also watch dogs as well but I think I’ll have to go back when I work on my Japanese a little more.
Is this place still around or is it somewhere else?
