Havana Curry

CONTRIBUTED BY TRISH KAPRIELIAN

Havana Curry Exterior

I’ve driven by Havana curry multiple times, but never had a chance to stop. The hubby had class one Friday night, so I went for it! It’s a little difficult to find and the parking lot is actually behind the store, but WOW- it’s good.

The counter guy spoke English well enough and there is an English menu. There is tomato, spinach and pork curry, and a fourth option I can’t remember! You pick the spice level 1-20.

Havana Curry Half Set

I got the half set which included a drink, salad, pickled veggies and a choice of dessert. I picked the pumpkin and it was VERY good. The half size curry is small, but the rest of the food made up for it.

I’d go again when I’m in the mood for curry and not CoCo’s. (It is Japanese curry- not Thai or Indian.)

Directions:  Like I said earlier- it’s a little tough to find. Go down 58 bypass like you’re going to Round1. It’s on the left hand side of the road diagonal to ANA hotel and before the light for the Ginowan Convention Center. Parking is behind the store.

Details:  Try it sometime if you’re in the mood for a small comfy place to eat curry!

The question is: do they make the curry sauce by themselves ? :p
According to my Japanese friends, most of restaurants buy industrial sauces that are full of palm oil. Just like those is the supermarkets !

My guess is yes because it smelled like curry and curry spices are all over the place. It wasn’t greasy, no oil on the plate and he doesn’t offer tons of curry. Tasted fresh to me! Try it

I think they make their own. The curry is really unique tasting. Not like standard Japanese packaged curry. Plus, they list all of the spices. Overall, I thought it was a cute place worth visiting with a unique, above average variation of Japanese curry. Worth a stop if in the mood for curry and you’re sick of monotonous chain curry. The portions were a little small though, just a heads up. But the dessert with the set was good and nice touch.

My fiance and I eat there every payday evening! This is one of those places that is really an exciting find. I find myself looking forward to it every other week, and sometimes I crave it between paydays as well. You can get extra rice and curry for just a small increase in price and that should fill you up. This place is great!!
