Adan Kid’s Park (AKA Ewok Playground)

Even if you aren’t a Star Wars fan, you can still appreciate this adorable park!  We came across this area by chance and just had to stop and play around—yes, the playground is big enough for adults to have fun, too.  It reminded me of the village where the Ewoks live in Return of the Jedi.

Although the park itself is rather small, it’s big enough to spend time in and have a fun picnic.

There is a sign posted that translates to “Adan Kid’s Park.”

One word of advice:  the bridge is made of wood and chains.  Little feet might slip between the wood and get slivers or other injuries.  Use caution when deciding whether or not your children are old enough to enjoy the bridge.

Directions:  Take the 58 Ginowan Bypass either north or south depending on what direction you are traveling.  Turn at the light by the north entrance of the Convention Center parking (right if traveling north left if traveling south).  Then, turn left at the second intersection after the light.  Drive about two blocks and you’ll see it on your left across from a baseball field.

Address:  Ginowan, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, 6丁目-24-15 Oyama

Cute park. My 3 year old loved it. Plus, there is a geocache there. Parking is easy too.

  2. ash says:

can you please post better directions for those of us unfamiliar with the terminology here?

    • Amy Maddocks says:

Ash, I assume by “terminology” you mean the “58 Ginowan Bypass”? If so, the best way I can describe that is coming from the north. Just pass the Foster Commissary gate you’ll see that highway 58 splits. The sign will say “Convention Center” and you’ll head right on that road. Then, the Ginowan Convention Center will be a few kilometers down that road and on your right. You’ll see a huge Torii (gate) on the right and a San-A shopping complex on your left. That’s the light you need to turn at (you’d be heading east at that point). Then, the other directions should make sense. Otherwise, the best advice I can give you is to follow the link on Google Maps. Let me know if this doesn’t help and I’ll try to explain it a different way! :)

      • Audrey says:

The San-A is not at this light fyi. There is a Tire shop across the street from the convention center gate at the intersection.

        • Amy Maddocks says:

Thanks, Audrey. I went one intersection too far (by Round 1) when I first found the park, so I’m sorry my directions were incorrect! However, you can still get there from that intersection. It’s just the San-A that I had messed up on. Sorry!

  3. Sarah says:

Does this have seating for eating? Would it be big enough for a b-day party with a few families?

    • Amy Maddocks says:

There was only one Gazebo-type structure that I could see, and it had one table. I guess it depends on how much table space you need. I could email you some pics that weren’t published in the article that would give you a better idea of the space. Let me know your email if that’s something you’d like.

Went today. Click the link for a map from Foster Gate 1 to the parking area next to the park:

My family has orders to Okinawa, arriving in April. I have been searching the internet for fun things to do with my three young children (9 years, 5 years, and 9 months). Forgive me for being naive about the area, but how far is this playground form Camp Courtney?

    • LaLa says:

I would say about 45 minutes. That can be a little shorter or a LOT longer depending on time of day and traffic. Don’t let that stop you though. We have driven almost 2 hours for a great playground before. It was totally worth it! I’m sure once you meet some other moms in the Courtney area, they can let you know about parks around there. Have a great trip over!

Easy directions from Kadena gate 1:
    Take 58 S
Turn right on 58 bypass/convention center
Go down until light @ convention center torii gate (on right)
    Take left at the light
    Take 2nd left (no light)
Park is ~300m on left side of the road

  7. Amy Maddocks says:

Scott, the name of the Geocache in the park is called “Sanctuary Moon” after the forest moon of Endor, home to the Ewoks. Good luck caching!!

  8. Sarah says:

Drinking around trying to find this park but don’t know what you mean by Torii gate…? :(

  9. Scott says:

DO NOT GO HERE! I went today with my 5 and 3 year old. The entire park smells like a cat litter box. My wife and 3 year old stepped in cat poop from somewhere inside the park. You can see strays around walking under cars. I will never go here again. Awesome idea and really nice for the kids, but you can smell the nasty cat poop smell right when you get there.
