Bible Study Groups

CONTRIBUTED BY JOELLE YAMADA

Just wanted to give a chance for those of you who are involved in various Bible studies around the island to give a shout out to your group.  It was one of the things I looked for when I first arrived to try to connect with other women and find a friend or two (which I did).

I attend studies at Kadena’s Chapel 1 on Tuesday mornings (9am-11:30am — childcare available).  The group is run by PWOC (Protestant Women of the Chapel) and you can find their site here.   It’ll be at Chapel 1 Annex D from 9-11am.  They also have several Thursday evening study times and a satellite study on Courtney.

I know there is a Bible Study at Torii and I’m sure on different bases and at various churches.  Please add comments to tell us about any you attend.  Thanks!

I recently attend a english bible study in Okinawa 611 World Mission Church on Sunday at 9:30am -11am.
      Address: 568 Minamiuebaru Nakusuku-son, Okinawa, 901-2424
Contact phone number: Sam Bernald # 080-4054-5032; Anna lee # 08064946363

The bible study is currently runs by 2 american’s couples, participants in there mostly are from South africa and local english speaking japanese. (Well, it is a good chance to know the local christian too)

The church basically is a local church with a “small scale” international ministry. The senior pastor of the church is a old japanese pastor who studied in Hawaii during his college and finished bible school in Australia.

Yes, Calvary Int’l Church of God in Christ is trinitarian Pentecostal, and does use the KJV Bible. We welcome all denominations to our worship and/or study groups. The Bible study groups include classes for children, teens, and adults. Here is info and directions:
      Sunday School – 9:30 AM / Sunday Worship – 11:00 AM / Friday Bible Study – 6:00 PM
      DIRECTIONS:
Leaving from Kadena Gate 2 > Make a left at the first traffic light (going down the ramp, traveling towards the direction of Kadena gate 3). At the 5th traffic light make a left >> just past the tire shop. There will be a sign that says “Welcome To Calvary”. Parking and the entrance is behind the 2-tone blue and white church building.

Leaving Kadena Gate 3 > Make a right at the first light (heading in direction of Kadena gate 2). As you approach the 4th traffic light, from a distance, on the right you’ll see the 2-story blue and white Calvary Church building. At that 4th light, if you’re not able to ‘safely’ make a right U-turn, you can drive past that light to where you can safely turn around, and come back up on the other side of the street. You would then make a left, just past the tire shop at the light. You’ll see a sign that says “Welcome To Calvary”. Parking and the entrance are in the rear of the building. Info: 080-4053-6968.

Calvary International COGIC is a nice church to attend. They have AWESOME Bible Study on Wednesday nights at 7 pm and “iron sharpening iron” is encouraged. Even the youngest babe in Christ has something to offer to their classes. Pastor and First Lady Shepard are wonderful! Sunday School starts at 9:30 and regular service starts at 11 am. Childrens Church is fun with the focus on teaching Christ to kids. It is offered during Bible Study and regular church services. They have their own classroom setting with different learning centers. Maybe someone from the church will come and post their official website but for now all I have is their facebook account.
There is a daycare as well if you’re new to the island and looking for a child care provider they are affordable and offer a nurturing LEARNING environment. (babies, toddlers, pre-school, and before and after school) My daughter attended and REALLY enjoyed it there. Find them here http://www.calvarykids.webs.com/

Just wanted to wish you guys luck in your study of the bible. I know the bible can be very difficult to understand for many due to it’s spiritual nature, but hopefully in your group participation, you guys can help each other. I think it is good that these groups still exist today, many people in the world today don’t give the bible a second thought. Groups like these keep the bible in view, God bless.

The Camp Courtney chapel has two Women’s Bible studies going – one for Catholic women and one for Protestant women.

Both meet on Fridays from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Courtney Chapel classrooms. Childcare is provided!!!

The Bible study begins with time for fellowship (Protestant and Catholic women together), praise music and group prayer. Then we separate into our own groups for the Bible Study.
