CC's Chicken & Waffles | Okinawa Hai!

A new, feel-good restaurant just opened on the Sunabe Seawall and you’re not going to want to miss out on the delicious eats! CC’s Chicken & Waffles is owned by Cody, an American who relocated to Okinawa to be with his wife and start a fresh, new life together.

The new start, eventually, led to the delicious restaurant that we now know as CC’s Chicken and Waffles. The menu is vast, ranging from juicy fried chicken to smokey sausage gravy, and the staff is super friendly! Cody seriously seems to have never met a stranger, which makes him a pretty great restaurant owner considering all of the questions and requests that he’s gotten since opening day.

Today, I chose the pecan waffle and the boneless chicken. The boneless chicken is the size of a boneless chicken breast that you could pick up at the grocery store and is perfectly seasoned… and the crunch! Oh, the chicken is so good! As for the waffle, it’s the perfect combination between soft and crunchy.

Next up is the biscuits and gravy. Mmm, Mmmm, Mmm! I should note that everything that is served is homemade (down to the lemonade). The biscuits are both dense and flaky. The gravy has a distinct smoky flavor with a mildly spicy sausage. It reminded me of the gravy from a down-home-country restaurant in the states.

All of the sides are generous portions, definitely enough to share with another person (maybe three people if you’re a healthier portion eater than I am). The mac and cheese is creamy and… velvety (yeah, I said it)… with multiple layers of flavors. They offer cole slaw, too, but I haven’t tried it yet.

The only thing I regret about my trip to CC’s this afternoon is that I didn’t try one of the desserts. My mouth was watering as I read the words, “Sweet Potato Pie.” Man, I should have ordered dessert…

  1. Total respect to the owner cuz I can tell he’s put in effort, but there is still a lot of room for improvement, especially with regards to service. People who have been in Japan and served by Japanese people for years like myself will encounter a little bit of culture shock by the offhand attitude and lack of attentiveness of the American staff. Despite being a small restaurant with a visible kitchen, the staff made little effort to lower their voices and I could hear an argument between a cook and waitress in plain view. A waitress told me she’s be right with me to take my order and then just seemed to forget about me standing right in front of her and another girl helped me instead (though I had to catch her attention first).

I paid for my food and drink but only received half of the plate I ordered (to go, as there was nowhere to sit and they don’t seem to keep the place quite as clean as they should), and no drink. I asked for my drink and left. When I opened the box a couple minutes later in my car… I saw that biscuits and gravy plate was missing the chicken. Also, it was already practically cold. They took 20 minutes to make a plate of biscuits and gravy and eggs and it’s already cold? It’s like they didn’t even bother warming it up before serving it.

So I went back for the rest of my food and fortunately got it pretty quickly, but didn’t get much of an apology.

If it weren’t for the complete lack of competition in the Southern food market in Okinawa this place would not be anywhere nearly as busy as it is. Chicken is good, but a little bready. Waffles were OK last time I had them, which was admittedly quite a while back. With a little bit more attention to detail and a more diligent staff this place would be awesome though.

  2. If you love true home cooked food you need to try this place! My family and I ate here over the weekend and we can’t stop thinking about it. It was AMAZING!!!! We ate the coleslaw, homemade mac & cheese, fried boneless chicken, a waffle, and fresh strawberry lemonade. I don’t think you could go wrong with anything your order it was all so good! My mouth is still watering! The only down fall is it is very small so you can’t bring a big groups (more then 4-5) here unless you want to wait longer or you can call to make a reservation. We waited about 30 mins for 4 people but I would totally wait an hr to eat here. The staff was awesome as well 🙂

  3. A nice tucked away gem of a place that you almost wish DIDN’T get on-line writes up abouts (so you could keep it all to yourself). Waffles done right. Chicken and breading done right. Coffee refills. Sausage gravy is stick-to-your-ribs type good. Staff and service very real and down to earth. Sauce is to die for–not sure if it’s a syrupy butter or a buttery syrup, but you get the idea. When you want food in your belly, this is your spot (vs. over-priced half-done elsewhere). I now do more diving on the seawall just so I can be sitting pretty when I do decide to mow down. Thanks guys.

  4. I found this place last night and though it was a little confusing based on the directions given, it was well worth the drive. The easiest way to get to this place is turn left out of Kadena gate one and a right at the first light. You’ll pass a huge food complex on your right with the Pizza Inn and a couple other places to eat. Take that road all the way down to the sea wall. You’ll have to turn right to find parking since its a one way street, however CC’s chicken is 1 1/2 blocks to your left located underneath an apartment building and right next to a massage place….parking and then walking down the sea wall will be your best bet in finding this place….I had the Mac and Cheese and the Buscuits and Gravy….both were a decent size portion for one person. I’m a bit smaller and don’t eat much so I was satisfied with the sides….if your looking to get full you’ll have to order a couple sides with your main course. The food was amazing and the customer service was great. I will note that if your going with more than 2 people a reservation is a must! I waited 30 minutes for my food and I was alone im not sure how long it would have taken if I was with others.

  5. My husband and I went here today. I don’t know if we just had a bad experience or what. I got the chicken and waffles, my husband got chicken and the Mac and cheese. Both of our chicken was almost ALL breading. There was an extremely thin piece of chicken in the boneless, and my husbands chicken thigh had barely anything on it. Not only that, the chicken piece I got tasted extremely weird. I couldn’t eat more a couple bites. My husband said his tasted odd as well. The waffle was very dry with a weird side sauce. The only thing worth paying for was the Mac and cheese. The water cups we got were also very dirty, and had pieces of food (or whatever it was) floating in it. Before we even took a drink. Horrible experience. I am hoping this was a one time thing. We will give it a second chance in hopes it is better. We will order something different next time. The people were nice though….

    • Oh my god that was good. The chicken was so crispy that at one point I went to stab a piece with my fork and it practically exploded, and it was a HUGE piece of boneless chicken. Their biscuits and gravy are totally made there, and that is such a big thing for me. I can’t wait to go back for the Rogue beer too.
