For a sweet treat, I took a quick trip up the road from Camp McTureous to Soleil. It opened just a few months ago, and it’s a sunny spot to pick up something special for the kiddos on the way home (whether they deserve it or not!)

The small bakery offers a delicious selection of pastries so gorgeous you hate to ruin them, yet impossible not to. Individual servings of chocolate cakes, cream cakes, cream puffs, fruit-topped cakes, or the whole cake await you in the lovely display case.

You can also buy cake toppers and candles, cookies, and sweet bread loaves, ranging between 100-350 yen per serving, to 1,200-3,000 yen for the whole cake.

The interior is crisp and clean, with a homey feel in warm browns that match the brown and orange on the outside. There are two tables and four chairs next to the side window, so you can have your cake (and Blendy coffee for 120 yen, or cappucino or latte for 150 yen) and eat it too! I couldn’t resist.

Although there’s certainly no shortage of baked goods to be had on island, it’s great to know you can get your fix fresh when you need it, so close you can practically smell it when it comes out of the oven.

Directions: From McTureous, turn left out the gate onto Route 8, drive through a couple of new lights for about 1 kilometer. Soleil is the cute, brown and white building with the name and the sun in happy-orange on the left (on Route 8).
