Okinawa Hai fallback

CONTRIBUTED BY JULIA

For those of you who like barbecue ribs with meat that is falling off the bone and cornbread in a skillet then this is the place for you! Yummy, yummy, food. It can be quite busy so I’d recommend making reservations.

And from DOWNTOWNJULIEBROWN

I was really happy to find genuine Memphis-style BBQ which kicks butt even by US standards. The owner (a real sweetheart) is actually from Virginia but whatever, his BBQ rocks! The sauce is brown sugar based and portions are generous. The mac n cheese and sweet potatoes are my favorite side dishes and the kids’ meal is very generous. One warning is that they do fry their chicken wings in peanut oil for those of you have kids with allergies.

The restaurant is small (like 5 tables in all small). They do have high chairs but there is not a lot of running around room. I have one active toddler who despite my best efforts won’t stay seated at restaurants so I prefer to take out. They do take out very quickly. The easiest way is to show up and order or call as early as 30 minutes before they open and request the order.

Hours: Thursday-Saturday from 1800 until 2200. Last call for food orders is at 2130.  No reservations.

  1. So this seems to be one of the worst places to go for service. I got here about 7:10 p.m. its now 8:10 p.m. and still haven’t got my food. So I still can’t comment on how the food taste because I haven’t seen mine.

    • So we never got our food…recap on how that all went. So we waked in got our table and it took the waitress 15 min before she even asked to take our orders. After that it took another 10 min to get our water and kool-aids to the table(kool-aid was awsome though). We noticed another table sit down they got immediate service there food and drinks were brought out in about 20 min after they order which the food did look good. So I asked about my tables food and we got tols we they are just waiting on our cornbread and it will be out in 2 min. So after another 15min someone else at my table asked about our order the waitress told him the gas was out but now its working and they are waiting on frying our chicken. So how did another table that came in after us get there chicken fried and served with their cornbread and we didn’t. Well at the end we were so fuatrated we got up and said we are sorry for inconvienencing them and we had to cancel our order.

  2. We went this weekend and here is our opinion

    Pros:
    Fast and hot food
Sweet potatoes and corn bread were amazing!

    Cons:
Once we got our food not once did the waitress come back and ask us how the food was or if we needed anything or needed refills
Macaroni and sweet potatoes sides were A LOT smaller than expected
Chicken wings had very little meat on them and very little seasoning
Honestly 1400yen for the 5 piece chicken meal seemed really over priced!!

We were really disappointed as this place was highly recommended by friends. We wouldn’t ever go back. Sauce Live is 100% better and definitely worth the money, no questions asked.

  3. My family ate here tonight. Not very good at all. I got the ribs meal, my ribs were cold. They went and heated them up but they were very fatty. My sons ribs were cold as well. The mac and cheese and the cornbread were very good though. My husband got the chicken and he said it was very fatty as well. Too bad, I was really looking forward to eating here.

    • One bad comment in nine years is not too bad. You should have asked for the owner.Never walk out of a restaurant unhappy. I would have refunded your money. New staff can miss cook sometime which is a bad review for me but thanks for you comment. Makes me have to look more closely.

  4. Just a note that they no longer do reservations. Its first come, first serve. I’ve been there when its empty and when its totally packed so its hard to tell sometime. Best bet is to get there when they open or do takeout.

Also they do a great job of providing catered food for parties. They are located really close to the Okinawa City zoo. Try them when you have a chance. I promise you won’t regret it!
