Mday_pics_048_3 My parents flew into Okinawa from Seattle a couple of days ago and since, we’ve been meeting and greeting relatives.  One of my aunts asked me if I get lonely without my parents and sister around.  Of course I do.  But the sting of loneliness is easily relieved via my computer.  I keep in touch with the latest curtain choices, gripes about work and detailed weather information from back home.  My stateside friends and new friends made in Okinawa also give me glee when I get to open an email or get poked.  Its also how I stay up to date with the world around me and how I figure out how stuff works.   If you’re reading this right now you are part of the fortunate 21.9 percent of the world’s population who use the internet, according to THIS site.  My computer and the internet are not just luxuries to me.  I’d give up most of my material possessions before cutting this lifeline out of my life.  But what do you do if your computer needs a little TLC while on Okinawa?   One of our readers has asked that question:

Do you know where we can take a laptop to be repaired? The warranty expired on my handy dandy Gateway and their fee-for-service customer support people think it’s the motherboard that needs to be repaired but no one knows of anyone on Okinawa who can do it. Surely there are some tech geeks out there who’ve set up shop and speak enough English for us newbies to communicate…

    computer performance as they can be done easily
    by any individual. People understand this information about you whenever you visit certain websites where they track their user’s activities.

  2. I’ve stayed in Okinawa. If you’re up to find ones to fix problem about computer in Okinawa, I rather recommend ITassist, local japanese company. They deal not only business customers, and also personal use too. And there’s English speaking worker.
    They’ll visit your place and check what’s going on.

  3. Recently my computer has been causing me problems. Either during startup or only minutes after running it freezes. I have tried running virus scans and a couple other options but again, it freezes up before finishing. Does anyone know anyone besides the computer stores in the Bx where I could take it?

  4. I had both my laptops go down at once – not a pretty sight. I thought that if I took them in for repair it would weeks to get them back. My friend told me about a guy on okinawayardsales that repaired her laptop and had it back to her the next day. So I called him – He had one laptop back the next day and the other one took a little longer but I had it back by the end of the week – He is highly recommended and you can find his ad on okinawayardsales.   5. On Kadena and Foster there is a computer store that repairs computers and laptops. I believe it is the same company. They are located in the Concession area of the BX at Kadena and the Concession building next to the BX at Foster. They may also have them at the other bases, but I am just not sure about those.

  6. My husband is a computer person by degree and military profession. He can fix most computer problems and he has been my computer lifesaver for the last 3 years;)

  8. There is a place in the little concession mall on Kadena near the gas station. I haven’t used them, but I’ve seen their sign saying they do repairs & I’ve been meaning to call them to see if they can put some keys back on my laptop (my little one pulled them off). Sorry, but I don’t have the phone number… I’m sure you can call the operator though. Hopefully that helps some!

  9. When my computer went on the fritz earlier this year,I found this person on Japan update. – Michael Randolph- Randolph Repairs on Kadena. My computer needed alot of work, he gave me a loaner while waiting for new parts, and now it works better than ever, for what I thought was a very reasonable price. He said most repairs he can do overnight.

  10. Sounds like Robin gave you a great option. I was just going to say that I don’t know whether or not they repair laptops on site, but the store called GOODWILL on 58 between Kadena and Lester seems to be a big computer store and the salesman I talked to spoke perfect English. I was only in there for a minute, but it might be a good place to start asking questions.

On the second day of my dream journey back to Okinawa, my hard drive crashed, a very serious thing to have happened, as I was chronicling my adventures all along the way with my blog, including photos and movies. Fortunately, my good friends, the Bowmans, generously lent me their spare laptop while I was there. Thank you!!

    However, the manager at Super Hotel in Naha made one call and within an hour a man from 1st Position, Osumi Yoshiharu, came to the rescue to diagnose my problem and take my laptop away. He replaced my hard drive and even delivered it to me at my next lodging in Nakadomari a few days later. Yoshiharu san’s English is pretty good and he has privileges to work on base, I believe. I still have his card and his number is 090-3790-4798. (Coincidentally, he happened to be delivering my laptop during the earthquake, but neither of us realized what it was at the time.) Yoshiharu san even showed me how to work the washing machine in my room and told me how to prepare the instant noodles I’d purchased! Great service, indeed!
