There is so much to do at the Renaissance Resort out by Onna that I hardly know where to start.  For a flat fee of 1260 yen (starting from age 6 and up) you can use their outdoor pool, indoor pool, spa, sauna, Jacuzzi, and beach.  There is also a touch pool that you can wade into which the kids love.  The last time we went there was a starfish, some sea cucumbers, and various fish swimming around.

They also have dolphin programs here.  Prices range from 3000 yen per person to 8000 yen per person.  If you don’t want to do a program you can always catch a glimpse of the dolphins from afar.  My kids are usually quite happy with that.  I tried one of the programs last year with my older one who was about 18 months at the time but he was pretty scared to get up so close.

Directions from Kadena:

    • Take a RIGHT onto Hwy 58 from Kadena Gate 1.

  • Continue on Hwy 58 past the rotary, some large cow and pig statues on your left, and a large sign for Ryukyu Mura also on your left side.

  • You will go over a stretch of road where you can see the East China Sea on your left and Renaissance Resort (large white hotel) up ahead.

  • There are a couple of options for parking:  1) You can take a LEFT-hand U-turn just before the light and park in the parking area on your left or adjacent to the hotel.  2) You can park in another designated parking lot on the right hand side of 58 but you will have to pass the light and make a U-turn up ahead to get to it.  Driving time is roughly 25 minutes unless traffic is really bad.

  1. BE WARNED: If you do not have small children under the age of 6 the Renaissance Hotel is not worth the cost. The cost for a day pass is 3,000 Yen per adult and 2,000 Yen for children 12 and under. I believe children 6 and under are free. A one day pass gives you access to the outdoor pool, the indoor pool and the beach. After hearing great views from friends and online, my family of four decided to check it out. (Keep in mind, we had to pay full price since our children are older) To our disappointment the indoor pool with the slide was quit small and made for small children. The outdoor pool was a decent size however the outdoor slide was even smaller than the one in the indoor pool. As for the beach, well, it’s a beach. There are plenty our water activities that the Renaissance Hotel offers, but you guess it. You have to pay extra for each one. You can go to Torii beach or Ukuma which offer the same water activities without the admission price. Don’t get me wrong, the Renaissance Hotel is very nice and we knew it would be a bit price, however I also thought for the price they would include a few extras. Unless you are ready to spend some serious dough, my suggestion is to spend your expensive Yen elsewhere.

  2. […] that you can imagine. Sound enticing? This recipe for a delicious lunch is prepared at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel  in Onna at their Four Seasons Italian […]

  3. I have brought food and no one has ever said anything to me about it. They do also offer free ice water and there food is pretty good and moderately priced. The kids chicken nuggets and french fries could easily feed 2 kids and I think it cost’s 600 yen. The indoor pool is currently under construction but the beach and outdoor pool with slide are still open.

  4. We were at Renaissance again today and the hours at this time for the Outdoor Pool were 9:00 AM-6:00 PM. Indoor Pool Hours were 9:00 AM – 10:00 PM.
I tried to ask if they would be extending hours for the summer but unfortunately my Japanese wasn’t good enough!

  5. LAST year the outdoor pool was open at 8:00 AM and the indoor pool was 9:00 AM. I’ll check again the next time I’m there.

At this time the 1260 yen does NOT include the spa, sauna, or Thalasso jacuzzi as they are currently under renovation. Supposedly they will be included again when the renovation is completed in November. Not that it makes much of a difference to me since I never even made it to the spa or sauna with the kids in tow!

Since March they have added in water slides to both the outdoor and indoor pools which are actually perfect for the kiddos. Both my 2 year-old and 3 year-old have gone down themselves at the indoor pool. AND the area with the water slide outdoors is shaded which is an added bonus!
