Tacorice Cafe (Kijimunaa)

Tacorice Plate

One sunny Sunday, a friend (Hi Rebekah!) and I had decided to have a Girls Day Out at Depot Island. We’ve already tried a few restaurants in the area and decided that we should try something new. We glanced over the Depot Island map and saw “Tacorice Cafe.” Sounds good! And who doesn’t like taco rice?!

Taco rice is one of Okinawa’s most popular foods. It is a mixture of taco, brought by the Americans, and Japanese rice. At this restaurant, you will find several variations of taco rice with different types of topping. Tacorice Cafe is best known for their “Omutaco,” which is a fluffy omelet served over the taco rice.

I ordered the taco rice with bacon set, which was absolutely delicious! The set included spicy fries and a drink. There’s different variations to the set too. You can choose from regular fries or onion rings also. The dishes are inexpensive and will definitely fill you up. So, the next time you’re at Depot Island give Tacorice Cafe a try!

  1. My family ate here for a late lunch today. It was a nice blend of familiar & new flavors. We’ve only been on island for 6 days so a little bit of easing in to the culture.
My husband really enjoyed the regular Tacorice with chili beans & melon soda, which is a bit different than we’re used to ut still good. I had bacon added to mine & it was good! I also had spicy fries with mine and really enjoyed them. I wish I knew what seasoning was used ’cause I’d but it for our house. My son’s mango juice was a big hit! His set came with 2 little star shaped hash brown (?). I think we’re really going to enjoy the fun food here.

For 2 adult sets & 1 kid bowl our meal came out to 3400 yen.
The restaurant was a bit difficult to find within American Village. Its located in Depot Island on the 2nd floor. You kinda have to find your way through the maze that is Depot Island. It was worth it though. The service was friendly, decent portions, tasty food. They do along smoking outside but I’m not sure about inside, it didn’t smell like it. We caught a wiff when the table outside lit up.

  2. This place was AWESOME!! Thank you for your recommendation 🙂 I got the taco rice & bacon set with spicy fries and my hubs got the Omutaco with bacon – he tried mine and liked it, but of course thought his was better than mine 😉 I will say, if you’re a lighter eater, don’t get the set – I couldn’t even finish my whole entree! All of it was truly delish though!
