Brunch at Butler Officer’s Club

CONTRIBUTED BY MONETTE EAMES

For the past three years, my husband and I have been to the Butler Officer’s Club on Plaza for the Marine Corps Birthday Celebrations. Whenever I thought of the O’Club, all I thought of was the Marine Corps Birthday events. But recently, we have discovered another wonderful reason to visit the BOC—for their delicious Sunday Brunches! I’ve always loved brunches, but the only ones we have been to here on Okinawa have been at hotels during our first year here. The area hotels are good, but are usually really pricy.

Since our church services typically start at 10:30 a.m. and end past noon, we usually can’t hit a buffet for Sunday brunches. Even if we rushed going to the nearest one, it would already be 1:00 or 1:30 p.m. and the brunch would just be finishing up. This time, however, we had to attend a function on a Sunday and went to the Butler Officer’s Club for an early brunch. I was surprised by the enormous layout and the variety of what was in front of us. The yummy magic starts every Sunday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The spread of food was surely more than you pay for. There were the typical pancakes, French toast, pastries, waffles, and breakfast meats for breakfast. But they also have a lot more than the usual fare; they have carving stations for turkey, roast beef, and ham. They have omelet stations and pasta stations where the chefs prepare your omelet and pasta to your heart’s desire. They also have crab legs, mussels, shrimp cocktail, different cheeses, and huge platters of desserts, fruits and fresh veggies. In addition to American dishes, delicious Japanese food is also served.

Now I’m wishing they also had Saturday brunches…for those of us who cannot arrive in time when we are at church on Sundays!
