Urashiro Park

CONTRIBUTED BY HEATHER OLSEN

Nestled away in the quiet neighborhood of Gusukuma is Urashiro Park. This small little park is great for the little ones of the family. There is a wide open field that is perfect for kicking around a ball, flying a kite or throwing some water balloons. There is a small hill next to the playground that is great for sliding down on cardboard. My kids are still little so they loved it. It is big enough for them to enjoy themselves but small enough for me to be ok with them sliding down it.

The playground has a few slides and is pretty safe for the babies. This is a great park if you are in the area or live on Camp Kinser. On the hillside behind the playground are family tombs. They are easily avoided in the park area. There is a cleaning station in the park for the family members to come care for the tombs. You can access the park from the road above it but there is no street parking allowed so we went around to the other side. Remember your cardboard!

Directions:  From Gate 3 of Kinser, turn left out of the gate and merge directly into the turning lane to make a right turn onto Sun Park Dori road. Take your first left, after the large shopping center. Follow this road until it makes a sharp right. The park is on this corner.

From Foster’s commissary gate or Kadena Gate 1, turn left (south) on the 58, drive past the Pharaoh casino. You will see a red church building and a car dealership on the left. Turn left onto Sun Park Dori road; the car dealership is on this road. Take your first left, after the large shopping center. Follow this road until it makes a sharp right. The park is on this corner.
