Fashion Candy

CONTRIBUTED BY HEATHER OLSEN

As Valentine’s Day approaches, many thoughts turn to the rich indulgence of chocolate. When my mind does, I think of Fashion Candy. Everything that I have tasted in this store is heavenly. When you walk in, you will see a long display of cheesecakes and hand-made chocolates. There are a few different samples of the cakes that you can try near the case. Depending on the day, Shu Cream is available. These are my absolute favorite. Shu cream is a round pastry cut in half with cream in the middle, so it will look like a sandwich. They are not overly rich in flavor but have a fresh, light taste. Plus, they are only 100¥ each!

When choosing the chocolates, it is best to ask what the flavors are of each one or else you may be in for a pleasant; or unpleasant surprise. I have seen green tea and wasabi-flavored chocolates here!  The chocolates that are wrapped in foil will be your alcohol and liquor flavored chocolates.  Through the rest of the store you will find different assortments of cookies and other baked sweets.

As you walk through the store it is clear that fine quality and distinct detail are implemented into everything that is made. Assorted trays and baskets are pre-made and wrapped to create a beautiful gift. Your selected chocolates are tucked away inside boxes, then wrapped with a bow. Some of the cookies are in the shape of animals with the details baked into them. I have not inquired about it, but there are indicators that customers may pre-order items and possibly request catering as well.

You can also find these tasty treats sold at Ma Kururu on Kokusai Street in Naha!
