Maybe selling a family member isn’t the greatest idea, but selling all of the old clothes that takes up all of your closet space might help.
Life in the military is filled with collecting souvenirs from new and exciting places. It is also filled with finding room for clothes out of season or out of style. After the move, I am always amazed with how much stuff can accumulate during a previous tour. After the last few moves, I’ve become more of a purger than a pack rat, mainly because I’m tired of “finding a home” in my new place for unnecessary junk!
Here on Okinawa we have the double edged sword. Its more difficult to rid our homes of unwanted things due to the more restricted garbage rules. (ie, you can’t just throw your easy chair in a dumpster.) However, we also have the unusual advantage of selling our junk to very eager consumers.
So I thought it was time to compile a list of all of the places to sell that treasure we deem as junk. If you’ve been here a while, you know about JapanUpdate, the weekly Flea Market, and of course the old standby eBay. A friend of mine told me about the up and coming OkinawaYardSales site and how successful she has been in selling all of her unwanted stuff. There is also the very green OkinawaJapanFreecycle (no cash allowed here…just giving or taking. You’ll get the rules once you join.)
Where do you go to sell, donate or recycle your junk? (Please, NOT how you sell your handmade goodies or home business products…just the trash to treasure kind of stuff.) And if you have any comments, good or bad, about these sites/services, please share!
