I kept hearing from friends about Shakey’s, a pizza buffet that offers a variety of strange pizzas and curry. With this kind of combination, I knew the place had to be a hit. Since several of us from the office had never been, we decided to take an adventure to the new location within the Plaza House Center outside Kadena gate 2 (and very close to Camp Foster’s Plaza Housing). There is also a location within Navel Kadena just outside gate 1.
The place was easy to locate within the shopping center; it’s just inside the first floor entrance on the right-hand side. The atmosphere was very comfortable and pub-like, but was also welcoming to children.
We paid prior to being seated; for the lunch buffet the cost was 980 yen for adults. They also offered a salad plate option in addition to the buffet that would have been an additional 300 yen. The add-on allowed you one trip to the salad bar. Since I was mainly going to try the pizza, I did not feel the need for a salad as well. My waistline probably disagreed, but I won out.
The buffet offered a variety of pizzas that change often. While we were there, they had mushroom, corn, taco, bacon and potato, peppers and pepperoni, seafood, veggie, sausage, and cheese.
They have a menu board just next to the buffet you can place your order from.
Or if you have time to kill just hang around a little longer and more delicious and unique creations will arrive on the buffet.
In addition to all the pizzas, they had three pasta dishes available (pesto, seafood, and tomato), fried potatoes, curry (mild and hot), soup, and drinks.
There was also a cinnamon roll-like pastry for dessert. I could only eat a bite of mine, but it was delicious and a great way to end the meal. After trying everything I wanted to, I left feeling very full and satisfied. I would definitely go back and bring my family with me. I think my two-year-old would love it. If you are looking for a place that offers a variety of options for everyone without breaking the bank, and want some really tasty and unique pizza, you should try Shakey’s.
