DSC_8084_2 In April 2007, my family arrived on island for my husband's Navy service.  I stumbled upon Okinawa Hai just a few weeks later and started submitting posts that summer.  Being part of the editing team - and now managing the ins and outs of this blog - was one of the highest lights of my time on Okinawa.  The information here helped me feel both comfortable to survive our time overseas as well as energized to try new and different things.  We left the island in spring 2010 for our new duty station in southern California (with 2 more children than when we arrived!) and I miss the beauty (sakura is one of my favs), yumminess (not sure what I'll do without soba and C.C. Lemon), learning (new fruit & veggies from the farmer's markets and my son's experience at Japanese yochien) and friendships (yoga moms, church friends, book club gals).  What a ride!

Heather G OH profile My husband's job with the Army brought us here to Okinawa in August 2008, and we loved the experiences that living here brought to our lives.  I began using Okinawa Hai as a how-to/where-to/what-to resource on island living shortly after moving here, and became an editor in the spring of 2009. Later that year I moved into the position of Content Manager, and now I'm working behind the scenes to help make this website more user-friendly and the information more accessible for all our readers.  Our family has since PCS'd to the landlocked higher altitude/lower humidity climate of Colorado, but I'm still working hard over here. If you find a glitch on the site, or information that is far past its expiration date, I'm the one to contact!

Sarah Forte - On-Island Manager

Sarah Forte OH bio 1

Konichiwa! My Okinawan adventure began in August of 2009 when my Air Force husband and I finally set foot together on Okinawa. Months before arriving, I found OkinawaHai and poured over all the posts. Each post made me more excited to get here and more confident when I did. I started writing articles for OkinawaHai early in 2010 and have started as your on-island manager in 2011.  I want everyone to find something they love about living here. Moving to Okinawa may not have been your decision, but your attitude about how you handle this opportunity is your choice. Traveling, eating, driving, hiking, scuba diving, shopping, even getting lost is an adventure here. Each day spent at home feels like a squandered opportunity! Use this website as your guide book and to get out and try something new!
