The Mega Don Quijote Ginowan store has everything you could possibly need. And I mean everything. If you’re looking for a Walmart in Okinawa, this might come close.
Tucked away in the edges of Ginowan, the store was opened in November 2012 and is a part of the Don Quijote chain of discount stores all over Japan (plus three stores in Hawaii). The Mega store is the first in Okinawa.
Whether you’re looking clothes, cosmetics, household products, food and groceries, gadgets, toys, jewelry, branded goods, kitchenware, toiletries, vehicle accessories, or even costumes and wigs, you can get them all here in this retail haven. My favorite find in the store was a cute laptop sleeve for 1990 yen, about half of its original price.
Don Quijote (affectionately known as Donki) is known for its low prices and if you’re looking for further bargains to add to your wardrobe, look out for discount sections where you can get clothes for as low as 500 yen.
If you live around the area and need to make emergency purchases, you’d be happy to know that the store is open until the early hours of the morning.
For those who are on vacation in Okinawa, bring your passport because tourists who spend a certain amount at Donki can get a tax refund if they produce their passports.
Even if you’re not big on shopping, the Mega Don Quijote Ginowan store is still worth visiting to check out some interesting and only-in-Japan products.

Directions: From Foster commissary gate, turn left on 58 South, turn right on bypass (as going to the Ginowan hundred yen store), Don Quijote is on the street that runs behind the hundred yen store. If you pass it, make a u-turn and turn left directly after the hundred yen store. You will see the store right away, on the left.

Take 58 south and after passing the Foster commissary gate make sure you are in the far right lane. Veer to the right at the light that takes you to Tropical Beach, the Okinawan. Convention Center, etc. This road is known as the. Ginowan bypass. Take this road down quite a ways and there will be a Joyful Resturant on the right, followed by a San A then a McDonald’s. You want to turn right at the light at the McDonald’s (if you miss it go down a bit more and do a u-turn). Anyway, once you turn at the light by McDonald’s, you will run right into Don Q at the end of the road.
This store is one quick bus to crazy town! It is indeed overwhelming and overcrowded with stuff and full of confusing twists and turns but it is really really fun shopping. Lots of uniquely Japanese items from Japanese anime and manga as well as current popular culture. A huge selection of Japanese popular makeup products, bulk snackfood, and very strange costumes for adults…
Jake, they do have some American stuff. Didn’t check out the toothpaste. They have stuff from all over.
There are a few places you might want to check. Try looking at the shops across from the Starbucks at Ashibina.
Ok, I officially LOVE this store! It seemed at every turn we were like, “look at this, it’s so cool”. I thought it was great that they had everything from stuff you’d find in a 100 Yen Store to designer purses and $600 bottles of champagne. Oh, if you are looking for a Halloween costume (esp. adult ones) then check this place out. They had TONS! Also, if your kid is a Star Wars, Angry Birds, Hello Kitty or Disney fan, they have tons of stuff. We walked around in there for what seemed like forever. Warning…if you are looking for a super organized store or are easily overwhelmed by stores packed with stuff, this is not the store for you. While the shelves were neatly stocked, there did not really seem to be rhyme or reason to the way the departments were laid out within the store. We called it Walmart on Crack, haha! We WILL defintely be going back.
Does this Donki store stock US imported stuff, like Peanut Butter Cups, Crest Toothpaste, Deodorant, etc.?
I’m only a tourist on Okinawa so I can’t shop at the AF stores. Anyone know where I can find such things on Okinawa?

Look for the tall tower that has black and brown on the top, that’s the place!
From Foster take the bypass where the road splits off 58. Watch for the McDonalds on the right. You will have to turn around and take the road right before McD and its down there.
I copied the address into my iPhone map. It came up with a different location than what is shown on here. It’s close but actually on the other side of 58. Which is correct? Do you have good directions from kinser?
Love this store!!!! We happened to pass by on opening day last year, on our way to the 100yen plaza. My hubby and I wanted to see what all the commotion was about so we ventured on in! Been going back ever since! We love to buy the snacks and send them back to family in the states! Affordable and you can buy in bulk 😉
